1 April
We start off our last days in Key West in Site 11, Rockpile. As I mentioned yesterday, its not the best site here at Sigsbee but it is fine and the price is right, Can see the water, a little. We'll be here 13 days and then, as they say here, we're UTR (Up the Road). Up is the only way to go since South is Cuba and there is no road.
I put this here just as a reference for us. Met folks here that have a campground near Nashville. We'll probably stay there some time.
13 April
We've not done much, just visit favorite restaurants one last time since we are UTR tomorrow.
Caroline's in one of those we've mentioned here several times. Food is superb and we love seeing the chickens! This is very common in Key West.
Neighbors Corey and Alexius (Spellings?) joined us at Pepe's. Great couple. He's been to Afghanistan a bazillion times with SOCOM/USAF. Does he look like someone that had a kidney transplant? Enjoyed them very much and hope our paths cross again.
And, of course, we had to have the obligatory picture at the Southernmost Point of the continental US. Cuba right over there...90 miles.

UTR AFTER 96 DAYS IN PARADISE!
 |
Not a great sunset on our last night. But we had a lot of great ones |
That's all folks, at least for this winter. We enjoyed it so very much. We plan to be here again next winter but we may change things up a bit by going other places first (Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, west Florida) and then here in April. We'll see.
The next few weeks will be Okeechobee, Dade City with Anne, Bruswick GA (Sista's Soul Food), Lincolnton GA (Bluegrass Festival), Charlotte to see baby Rowyn, then home on 8 after a brief stop to have new Michelins installed on the steer tires ($$$$$$$). After that, the rest of May will be Dr appts, seeing folks, preventive maintenance, chores, etc... Oh, then we head out west on 3 June for several months.
Today's trip was great.
It doesn't take nav skills to come up the Keys because there's only 1 road, US1.
 |
We found this interesting. In many places you have the Atlantic Ocean on the right and the Gulf of Mexico on the left. Only in the Keys! |
We went around Miami on the parkway to I-75 for a few miles then headed north on US27/98 through miles and miles of sugar cane fields. This was a lunch break near the flood control gates for the Everglades.
Slight disappointment in not being able to see Lake Okeechobee. Its surrounded by a huge revetment. Only saw the lake once from a high bridge.
We're staying at the Okeechobee KOA.
LINK At $65/night its not something we often do but we're rewarding ourselves with a premium site after 54 days of dry camp and then 42 of tight quarter hookups at Sigsbee.
It is an beautiful campground, spotlessly maintained. Surely the best KOA and, probably, the best campground we've stayed in. Even has a 9 hole golf course and 2 pools. The snow birds have gone home so lots of available sites.
 |
That's us in the distance on Site 94 |
 |
Nice 9 Hole Golf Course |
 |
Betting there is a gator or 2 in there |
 |
Family Pool |
 |
Lots of tennis, Petanque, shuffleboard |
 |
Note the grills and game tables |
 |
Adults only pool |
 |
Dog Park |
18 April
Today we did an easy trip to Anne's in Dade City. I'll post the map later but we went mainly US58 via Sebring, Lake Wales, and Lakeland.
We're Moochdocking in Anne's backyard. Tight quarters, but it works.
20 April
Anne was kind enough to take us yet again to Tarpon Springs and one of our favorite restaurants.
Did some shopping afterwards,
22 April
Anne graciously took us to Homosassa FL
LINK on the Gulf for an air boat ride and seeing the countryside. Fantastic day. The ride was 90 min and a lot of fun an educational seeing aquatic life in the very clear waters. Out guide was a native Irishman from Dublin, complete with accent. I'll post his name and company when I find the card. Some pictures including a couple of movies on the boat.

Monkey Island 4 live there |
25 April
Time to move on. Been in Fla since 4 Jan.
Destination is Brunswick, GA and our favorite campground
Blythe Island Regional Park LINK. This time we have SIte 85, a massive pull through with lots of privacy. Its long enough for 2 big rigs! There's still room behind us! And Satellite works!
Animals enjoyed the evening.
 |
They have tame bunnies everywhere. Several hop past us all the time. |
Why Brunswick? Sistas' Kitchen Soul food supreme.
