Key West! (Feb 2019)

(30 Jan) Hookups! As discussed earlier we stay in dry camp (no on-site electric, water, sewer) awaiting our turn for full hookups. It took us 3 weeks and 1 day. Not bad. The dry camp costs $17/day. We topped off with diesel and it came to 50 gallons for 22 days. That's 2.27 gallons/day for the generator. At $3.11/gal, that's $7/day to run the generator (we run it for about 8 hours/day).

We left dry camp site #468 and are now on #29 with full hookups. We stay here for 2 weeks and then rotate back to dry and await our turn again. Its what folks here call 2nd row Rock Pile. We can see the water and its just one row over to sit on the shore. We're happy. Some pictures (click to make bigger):

Way in the distance is a cruise ship. Today only one...often there are two.
(31 Jan) Our Landlords
Pleasantly surprised when Rocky and Genia, the owners of our base camp campground in Hickory, called from a local restaurant. We had a great time and some great mussels at the Hurricane Hole (LINK) on Stock Island.

(1 Feb) Tibby and the Vet
Tibby seems to be having urinary issues so we took her to the Vet. She was seen in Key West in 2011 when she was a tiny puppy. The staff at All Animal (LINK) were as fantastic as they were back then. Tibby loved them. She does have a UTI.

2-3 Feb VP Pence!
Excitement at Sigsbee this weekend because VP & Mrs Pence dropped in for a weekend of R&R LINK

Friday was the first sighting when they had dinner at the small lounge within walking distance of us. We didn't know it. Sat some folks in the park encountered them on a bike ride. Sun we almost went to the on base chapel but instead went to Mass in town and followed it up with a brunch. Guess who was at the Base Chapel. Folks said they were very cordial and approachable.

We never saw them even though they were in walking distance many times.

After Mass we went back to Pepe's for another delicious meal. Afterwards we walked around the "Bight" area.

There are Tarpon everywhere, right in the harbor.

Sat was a reading day right in front of our site. Click to make pictures bigger

See how clear the water is?

cwe were called to the Vet to discuss what the first round of tests showed re Tibby. Bottom line is, more tests. We love this Vet.

Only reason to post today was mention the great lunch we had at Goldman's Deli LINK This is a real deal NYC type deli. Noisy, busy, amazing pastrami and bagels. Robin's chicken salad and soup was fantastic.

Rest of  Feb
Haven't posted because we're in a Key West frame of mind. Reading. Chilling.

Some random pictures (as always, click to embigin)
Maybe the best meal we've had. The Mussels were amazing!

Market with Harriet and Rae.

We moved to dry camp #454 on 13 Feb. Fantastic site even without hookups.

One of our trips into town with Tom and Laura. Reminder to self to upload the other pictures

On 28 Feb Robin flew to Charlotte for the birth of Rowyn Tayte Cline (7 lbs, 3 oz; almost 20 inches long)

I stayed in Key West.
