Navigation is easy: get on US1 and head south until you're in water. We done this before back in 2016 so no pictures here...there are some on the 2016 blog. Its a beautiful trip. Good road albeit slow.
Home will be Naval Air Station Key West's Sigsbee Park. The Air Station is a little north. Sigsbee is on Key West proper and is mainly a housing area with support activities for military families e.g., school, rec center, commissary, PX... Year around it has about 100 full hookup RV sites and a few dry camps sites (no electric/water/sewer) if there is someone in dry camp you can only stay in hookups for 2 weeks and you rotate to dry. In the winter snow bird season, it is much different. Right now there are about 200 of us in dry camp awaiting our turn for hookups. Its not bad though because we learn how to transport water and bad stuff and we have generators. Here is an aerial view from the roof of our RV of dry camp, including a "movie" as the first one. Click on a picture to make it bigger.
You might say it is crowded. Why yes it is but folks are in a Key West mellow time and all goes well. We've gotten to know some really nice folks. It also helps to remember that the only civilian campground on Key West charges about $120/night! And they are packed in! You can pass mustard between rigs! Here at Sigsbee it is $17/night in dry and $27 in hookups!
That's an Osprey nest on top of the pole. |
The PX and Commissary are small but more than adequate. There are 2 Publix stores and one Winn Dixie in town. 1 Home Depot. 1 OLD K-Mart.
What are we doing? Chilling. Reading. Napping. We also dine out every couple of days. We did a laundry run over the Air Station. Its a great place because it is at the Base Marina that includes a nice beach. It also has a nice little restaurant and bar.
Not a shabby place to do laundry eh?
Our first downtown restaurant experience this trip was great. We were in a parking lot and I asked the attendant where he would eat? He pointed across the street. He was right. Oldest restaurant in Key West! Pepes of Key West LINK
Yes, the Stone Crabs were expensive...but yummy |
Oh look. A Kitty. |
Where's Casey? We're not good selfie takers. |
After Mass we go over to Duval for brunch. The first Sunday we went to Old Town Tavern LINK
It was ok. Not our favorite. But good.
I'm always a sucker for Eggs Benedict |
The next Sunday we went to a great place: Croissants de France LINK. We liked this place and will be back.
Robin's Bacon Egg and Cheese on a brioche was very good and HUGE...as was my Eggs Benedict.
Caroline's Cafe LINK is a favorite of ours from last trip. Chickens walk through all the time.
Great Salads! |
And for now, another favorite from last trip: Hog Fish! LINK
Thanks for sharing! Looks amazing. The water, the food, the weather. So jealous here. Have fun kids!
